Letter From The President
It’s hard to believe that it was nine years ago that we founded the Michael McElwee Memorial Golf Tournament as a way to honor the memory of my brother, Michael, who lost his battle with leukemia 19 years ago. I’m proud to say that since its inception, the tournament has raised over $2,000,000.
Michael’s Way currently works with three Delaware Valley hospitals, one Lehigh Valley hospital and two area Ronald McDonald Houses. Proceeds from the 9th Annual Golf Tournament, held on September 11, 2006, got us off to a great start for the 2007 year.
All money raised through the tournament, as well as private donations and grants received from foundations, goes directly to Michael’s Way and the children, not to overhead. The main purpose of Michael’s Way is to help the families of children with cancer to cope with the extraordinary expenses that come about as a direct result of their child’s illness. We try to ease the financial strain so that the family can concentrate on the real battle saving their child’s life.
We know that we are making a difference in the lives of these families and that we need to continue to do so. We receive letter after letter from grateful parents telling us what our help has meant to them at such a difficult time in their lives. We couldn’t do this without the generous support of individuals, corporations and foundations. For this we thank you!
Christopher J. McElwee
